More

These photographs were taken yesterday, in the city. I deliberately tried to do a few different things with them. I acknowledge that these are ridiculously-tiny baby steps in artistic terms (particularly as I am not sure if I even have an artistic mind). However, it's exciting to be able to see a potential shot, and then go at least part of the way toward capturing what I've seen (or what I think I've seen).

Another

...So I'm at least being a little more disciplined about posting a photograph each week. The deadline is also encouraging me to try new things with both the camera itself, and in terms of the composition of a shot. In a way, I'm hopeful that I'll look back on these photographs in six months and reflect on how I've developed my skills. But for the time being, I am really enjoying taking the odd shot that I'm somewhat proud of. It does help, however, to have such a sublime subject...

Sunrise over Berwick

Captured these earlier this week, when everyone else was still asleep, by leaning out of the (2nd storey) study window.

Pic for the week

One Year Old

What an amazing week it's been. My little boy turned one. Already. Isn't he lovely?

Catching up?

Well, I only managed to meet Matt's deadline once. Very very poor.
I think part of the problem is that I've been discouraged by the photographs I've been taking lately. Nevertheless, I'll persevere. Here are some of my favourites from the past few weeks;

My sister's garden, 11/04/2009;

Beautiful girls, 11/04/2009;

Special friends, 11/04/2009;

Tree roots, 11/04/2009;

Collins Rd, 11/04/2009. I find this picture particularly important to me, as it was the road used by my sister and her children to escape the recent fires.

Hmmmmmm

Ok, let's not waste time with gratuitous explanations, excuses and apologies. My name is Melissa Lowe, and it's been almost 2 years since my last blog entry. Yes, that is a long time. Of course, I regret it. Why, yes, a lot has happened since then, Virginia.
I do feel guilty about not making the effort to keep up-to-date with blogging. But that the guilt has further prevented me from blogging further is just, well, ridiculous. So watch this space. Not every day, now, let's not get too excited!

Matt has set me a challenge, in the spirit of being supportive (one of his many fortes). I must post, at least, one favourite photograph each week, by Sunday night. He has set me this challenge as I am ra-ther keen on photography but need a push in order to prove I am serious about it. If I am able to do this for seven weeks in a row, he will pay for me to attend a short course in photography!
So here goes... I've only had my digital SLR for 3 years so am still learning how to use it (yes I know that's actually very slack).
Matt, Jessica, Benjamin and I made a trip into the city today, by train. Jessica was very excited about it, and insisted on sitting on her own chair. Very cute and independent, I like it! Benjamin of course charmed many people and was a delight, even sleeping in my arms towards the end of the trip.
We alighted at Melbourne Central Station, enjoyed some hand rolls for lunch, then walked down Bourke Street, toward Federation Square, along to Alexandra Gardens (where I took off my uncomfortable shoes and promptly stepped in the mud), along Southbank for a while, then up to the Block Arcade for a Belgian Spoil at Koko Black before heading home. It was such a lovely day, and it's always great to get so far out of the house!
I took a lot of photographs, but here are a few of my favourites...
